Two anglers have fished the same waters for decades without meeting; until the Hampshire Avon brings them together to chase Chub as the temperature begins to drop. Kevin Parr and Adam Chetwood take refuge in the pub to talk strategy in the hope it will do the trick. Fishing draws us together in shared moments and bridges the years with nothing simpler than the thrill of the catch. But will they before the snow falls?

Landmark: Fishing the Dorset Stour for chub, roach, perch and dace.

Kevin Parr fishes a favourite swim for roach, dace, chub and perch, under the scrutiny of a ravenous pike, and is distracted from his task by the tea-making genius of Chris Yates.

Having fished the Dorset Stour for over twenty years, the angler returns to a favoured landmark where the fish are reliable. Chub, roach, perch and dace come to the net attracting the unwanted attention of a pike. As the day goes on, friends Garrett Fallon and Chris Yates join from other parts of the river. But with a bag full of fish, and last knockings coming fast, why would the angler move anywhere?

Mr. Green’s Rod: Chris Yates returns to the Sussex Levels

After nearly 60 years, Chris Yates returns to Waller’s Haven on the Sussex Levels to fish the same stretch he visited as a boy. To add to the nostalgia, he is using the very same rod – recently restored – as he tries to outdo his 11-year-old self by catching a bream from this famous venue. As he fishes, so he reminisces and reflects upon the journey that has led him here. With typical humour and charm, Yates gets distracted by perch and eels, while patiently hoping for the fish he has dreamed of for generations.
